A dual fuel system follows the line of lowest cost. It heats your home with an electric heat pump while outdoor temperatures are within the range where the heat pump performs well. When temperatures fall below that range (around 40*), the system switches to a gas furnace to give the home the more efficient choice for every outdoor condition. In the chart below, red bars represent the relative cost of heating with a heat pump, while blue bars show the cost of using a gas furnace. |
